Vent Your Rent 2020

Renters get a raw deal at the best of times — the pandemic made it much worse. We improved Generation Rent's campaign tool at the height of the pandemic, letting renters sound off and get organised.

We updated the Vent Your Rent site to support Generation Rent's campaign to protect renters affected by coronavirus.

This new version of site asks renters to share details about their rental situation, in order to build an evidence base, raise the public profile of renters' issues and lobby policy-makers.

We plotted these stories on a map, to assure renters that they were not alone and that others near them were also struggling. It also shows people just how common bad landlords, bad conditions and bad experiences are.

On day of launch the #VentYourRent campaign trended on Twitter as people swapped stories and discussed the renting crisis.

We set up a moderation workflow to prevent abuse. We also integrated the site with Generation Rent's Nation Builder instance, so that they could follow up with the renters who shared their stories, offer help, and suggest how they could get involved in the campaign.
