Privacy Policy

Your privacy is important to us. It is Common Knowledge's policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect from you across our website, https://commonknowledge.coop/, and other sites we own and operate.

We only ask for personal information when we truly need it to provide a service to you. We collect it by fair and lawful means, with your knowledge and consent. We also let you know why we're collecting it and how it will be used.

Analytics and cookies

We use PostHog to understand how people use our website: which pages are visited, how people find us, and how they move between pages. This helps us decide what to write about and improve the site. We don't use it for advertising, and we don't try to identify you.

When you first visit, we ask whether you're happy for us to use cookies.

  • If you accept, PostHog stores a cookie and some data in your browser's local storage. This lets us recognise you when you come back, so we can see things like how often people return. It also records your approximate location (your country and city), worked out from your IP address.
  • If you decline or don't choose, we don't store anything in your browser apart from your choice. We still count your visit using a privacy-preserving method: your IP address and browser details are combined with a random value that changes every day and turned into a code that can't be reversed. This lets us see how you move around the site during a single day, but not recognise you on later days or identify you.

Either way, we record the pages you view, how long you spend on them, how far you scroll, the site you came from, your device and browser type, and clicks on links such as "Email us" and "Book a meeting".

PostHog processes this data for us on servers in the United States. We keep analytics data for up to 7 years. You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.

Newsletter

If you sign up to our newsletter, your email address is stored by Mailchimp, which sends the newsletter for us. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter.

How we look after your information

We only keep information for as long as we need it. What we store, we protect within commercially acceptable means to prevent loss and theft, as well as unauthorised access, disclosure, copying, use or modification.

We don't sell your personal information or share it publicly. We only share it with the service providers described above, who process it on our behalf, or when required to by law.

Other sites

Our website may link to external sites that are not operated by us. Please be aware that we have no control over the content and practices of these sites, and cannot accept responsibility or liability for their respective privacy policies.

Your rights

You are free to refuse our request for your personal information, with the understanding that we may be unable to provide you with some of your desired services. You also have the right to ask what information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct or delete it. If you have any questions about how we handle user data and personal information, email us at hello@commonknowledge.coop. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
