Local News Map

Mapping local news sources for campaigners, organisers and journalists
None

Local news is the crucial lifeblood of democratic society. Without valuable, insightful and detailed news at a local level, we are left with the algorithmically generated content mills to provide the basis of civil society discussion. Without a stable and truthful information environment, democracy cannot proceed. And can begin with local news.

Public Interest News Foundation worked with us to produce the Local News Map . It captures local news outlets throughout the UK. Crucially, it details who owns them, differentiating between local news gathering by independent organisations and news gathering by large conglomerated publishers.

The PINF Local News Map draws in content from a CSV and displays it on a map. It allows local news outlets to be found by postcode and more vague location. It shows local news outlets that are in the location, their ownership, whether that ownership is either corporate or independent and if they are regulated by IPSO. It of course links to their online presence.
